DESCRIPTION:
EPW - Gregson, Horloger du Roy a Paris, Lepine caliber with virgule escapement, 55mm, 18K gold (tested) OF original case, signed gilt brass cuvette bearing attributes, white enamel dial, KWKS, virgule escapement, Lepine caliber gilt mvt with standing barrel, s#2145 to cuvette. Gross weight of assembled watch 62.1 dwt (96.6 g). Jean Gregson, originally of England, was appointed Horloger du Roy in Paris in 1776 and worked in France signing his watches as such until returning to England in approximately 1790.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running though with a frequent shortening of balance amplitude with its occurrence showing no readily discernible pattern, small bit of tissue is visible tucked under balance cock, overhaul recommended, barrel stopworks components are missing, otherwise fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scattered fine to micro-fine scratches with most notable portion being to balance cock foot, spot at edge of dial plate adjacent table of fourth wheel bridge; visible portion of dial with curved fine scratch below signature, some lesser fine to micro-fine scratches elsewhere; excellent hands; case shows little wear, some fine scratches and profuse micro-fine scratches, few small nicks, no dents or dings; bow pivots freely; good glass crystal.
